Buy Maryland Directory & Make It To Main Street Launched at Hagerstown’s Main Street Maryland Designation Ceremony

Release date: 10/30/2014

Hagerstown is a place for news and celebration today. State and Local officials as well as residents and guests turned out to applaud the city’s designation as Maryland’s latest Main Street Maryland community. The ceremony also served as a kickoff for Make It To Main Street—an initiative supporting the sale of Maryland goods in Main Street Maryland communities—and the launch of the Buy Maryland Directory. The directory supports the sale of goods produced throughout the state and features the Make It To Main Street initiative.

The new Buy Maryland Directory ( and Make It To Main Street were developed through a partnership between The Project Resource Group’s Maryland With Pride, the Regional Manufacturing Institute of Maryland, and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s Main Street Maryland Program. The directory is used by all three organizations to feature producers of Maryland goods as well as merchants that sell Maryland products.

Created in 1998 by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, Main Street Maryland is a comprehensive downtown revitalization program that is recognized nationally as a model for Smart Growth. The program strengthens the economic potential of Maryland's historic, traditional main streets, and neighborhoods.

The Buy Maryland Directory creates public awareness of the strength and diversity of Maryland’s manufacturing, arts, crafts, and farming enterprises, including those in Main Street Maryland communities. The Make It To Main Street initiative identifies Maryland goods made or sold in Main Street Maryland communities and helps to build the relationship between producers of Maryland goods, merchants on Main Streets, and the consumer. Learn more about these initiatives on the directory’s Buy MD and Make It To Main Street pages.
